Randy Lighthall from Habitat for Humanity’s Restore spoke to us today and shared these interesting facts. On September, 26 2015, the Habitat ReStore formerly located at 2811 Treat Hwy with 3,300 square feet relocated to expand its inventory to 12,000 square ft. at 1025 E US 223 (behind Rally's).
The ReStore, Randy said, is open to the public! Your purchases, he said, helps to support revitalization in our community. Whether you are a treasure hunter, bargain shopper, or personal contractor your purchase helps to make the dream of homeownership a reality for a low-income family in our community. The ReStore provides a more affordable avenue for household items and home improvement projects, all while keeping tons of perfectly good items from ending up in a landfill. Randy said that between July 1, 2014 and June, 30 2015 they diverted 174 tons of recyclable and reusable items from ending up in a landfill!
So, if you have something you don’t need, why not run it out to Randy so it can be put to good use!
Onion Sales – Kathye announced that all orders and money must be in by May 7th and will be delivered a couple of weeks after that. All members are asked to sell at least 6 bags or make an equivalent donation.
Speed Interviewing – Barry thanked everyone who helped out with this event. He shared a story about one of the students who participated and said he’d been looking for work for two years and got a job offer the very next week! Great job, Barry. Really well organized and professional!
Community Awards Foundation Dinner – Prez Nate who attended told members that 3 out of the 4 award recipients were Rotarians either from our club or the Morning Club! Congrats to our own Mark & Mary Murray (Lenawee Leadership Award), Kevin Marti for the award to Gleaner Life and Jim Hartley for receiving the Stubnitz Award!
District Assembly – President Nate along with PE Kathye and Carrie Dillon attended last week’s assembly in Livonia and met many other members from District 6400 and said that they all learned a lot and came home with many great ideas.
New T-Shirts – Susan had all T-shirts on hand at today’s meeting. A few are still on back order but should be here soon. Should you wish to purchase one, please see Susan. They will be $10 each depending on the size. Be sure and get yours. They look great!
New Member Induction – Past Assistant Governor, Mary Murray, officially inducted our newest member, Bob Behnke – Superintendent of Adrian Public Schools for the past 4 years. Bob was sponsored by Dane Nelson.

April 26 – NO MEETING THAT DAY – That afternoon we will host another Fireside Chat for our newest members starting at 4:30pm at the Armory followed by a social gathering beginning at 5:15pm. The club will provide beer, wine, water and soda pop. If attending, you are asked to bring an appetizer.
April 27 – Tree Planting Project – The originally scheduled date was Saturday, April 21st but has been changed to Friday, April 27th at 2pm. Adrian College Rotaractors will be gathering on Saturday the 21st however to plant a number of trees near the new Health Center and Hockey Arena at 10am. Should you wish to attend you’re your new T-shirts and be part of the photo op, feel free to do so. Otherwise, those of you who signed up to help next Saturday at 2pm make sure to note that on your calendars and wear your new T-shirts. It will start at 2pm at Michener School on Dawes Street by Maple Stadium. A crew from the City of Adrian have offered to dig all of the holes! We are excited to announce that District Governor, Rick Caron, will be in attendance as will Adrian’s Mayor, Chuck Jacobson! By the way, that same day some 36 trees will be planted at Adrian High School with the help of students! That same day three will be planted at the Adrian Armory! Plaques at each location will be placed on designated sites so that the community is aware that Rotary planted them for future generations, Nate said!
May 3-6 – District Conference – What a great opportunity to meet fellow Rotarians from the district and learn more about Rotary. Fabulous speakers, lunches, dinners and keynote speakers. Be sure and take advantage of the scholarships if you are a first time attendee. Contact President Nate if you are interested. Would love a great turnout!
May 4 & 5 – Pathways Engagement Center Worker Bee - with Morning Club members. Be on the lookout for more information. Need all hands on deck.
May 5 - E-Purity’s Graduation – REMEMBER: Purity will graduate from Siena Heights University and that should anyone wish to attend Purity could secure the necessary tickets. Just let Patty know if you can attend.
May 6 – Great Lakes Woodworking Festival - Luke will be looking for the club to assist again this year from 11am – 6pm. The GLWF is bringing together the best woodworkers from the Great Lakes region, ranging from several different woodworking disciplines and will showcase over 35 woodworking artists who will be selling their homemade goods. The event will also feature free classes, demonstrations, and prizes. It is 100% free to the public. Luke distributed full-color posters and asked members to post them at their businesses.
May 7 – Deadline for Onion Sale – Kathye announced that this was the drop-dead dead to submit orders and money. Please contact her by e-mail if you will not see her at a regular meeting relative to the number of bags you need.
May 18 – Fluency Friends – Mary announced that this will be the last day of the program. If you are a member volunteer, this will be the last day for tutoring kids from Michener Elementary. Thanks to all Rotary volunteers!
May 20 - E-RaceStigma5k Run– The event that will take place again this year. Our club will help with the Kid’s Fun Run event first thing the morning (8:30am-9:30am) of the race. May 21 – Strokes for Students Golf Outing – Looks like we’ll have a full foursome for this.
May 24 – Fluency Friends Open House – Mary Murray announced this as the date that will officially close out and celebrate this reading year. The event will be held again in the Library of Michener Elementary beginning at 9am and ending about 10am with coffee, donuts and light snacks being served. All members who have been a part of this great program this past school year should not miss this. Members who did not participate but can attend should also plan to do so. Mary also mentioned that the club donated $600 in books again this year students will be able to take home with them to read over the summer! Thanks, Mary, once again for all of the work you put into making this another successful year for students who benefit so much and whose lives are truly changed participating in this program!! March 18 will be the last day of this program.
June 21 – Joint Changeover Dinner - with the Morning Club. More info coming
September 22 – Lenawee Bike Tour - If you cannot serve on the committee but can help out during the actual one-day event on Saturday, September 22nd, please send Chip an e-mail to let him know. This year’s event will be a “timed” event for the more serious riders and begin at the Armory! Along with that, something for families and children (like a “slow” ride and scavenger hunt possibly) is being planned.

2018-19 RI President Barry Rassin wants Rotary members to Be the Inspiration
Rassin, a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, unveiled the 2018-19 presidential theme, Be the Inspiration, to incoming district governors at Rotary’s International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA. “I want you to inspire in your clubs, your Rotarians, that desire for something greater. The drive to do more, to be more, to create something that will live beyond each of us.”
