TODAY'S PROGRAM

Pop-Up Holocaust Museum

Bob Behnke

Adrian City Commissioner and former Adrian Noon Rotary Club member, Bob Behnke, gave a wonderful presentation on the project he has been involved in while showing many pictures on a project he said he has been working on for the past year.

The Holocaust Center in Detroit is going to have a traveling exhibit coming to Adrian during the months of March and April. Big Rapids was the first city it appeared in and we are the second.

This exhibit will be set up in the Gallery of Shops in Downtown Adrian. It is a 3,200 square foot exhibit consisting of multiple panels. There has been developed a comprehensive training program for teachers and learn from staff managing the exhibit. Teaching will occur every Wednesday night. Teachers will learn how to "teach" the holocaust, Bob said. Not the content but the "experiences".

Bob founded a local diversity group in Adrian that has also been helping with the exhibit. Bob, for the past 6 months has been taeching 32 students from all over Lenawee County on a program titled "Fighting Hate" which is about the holocaust. These involved lectures and books studies and a tour of the Detroit Holocaust Museum. The group even listed to an actual survivor.

At the pop-up exhibit coming to Adrian, individuals will learn about the history, remembrance, and impact of the Holocaust through informative displays. The exhibit features historical information and visual elements designed for thoughtful engagement. Bob mentioned that visitors should understand that the subject matter is sensitive and may be emotional for some, so parental guidance is suggested for children
