An overall summary of the issue and a quote from the site: On December 22, 2017, The League of Women Voters of Michigan and 11 individual voters filed a lawsuit against the State of Michigan in federal court in Detroit to end unfair, partisan gerrymandering of Michigan’s Congressional, state senate and state house districts.
“The Michigan League of Women Voters today filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of voters throughout Michigan to end the practice of unfair, partisan gerrymandering,” said Judy Karandjeff, president of the Michigan League of Women Voters. “Michigan’s State House, Senate and Congressional districts are among the worst in the nation when it comes to partisan gerrymandering, and today’s lawsuit aims to fix the problem and restore voters’ rights to choose who best represents them. Ending partisan gerrymandering is critical to preserve our democracy and ensure every vote counts,” said Sue Smith, director of the League’s Redistricting Program.
Passport Program – Prez Kathye thanked Nate, Mark and Rhonda for going with her to the Blissfield Rotary Club meeting. Nate also served as the song leader at their luncheon. I think we should hire this guy out. He sure makes things sound good when we sign archipelago.
One Rotary Summit – Prez Kathy thanked those who attended the Summit in Livonia last Thursday. Yours Truly gave a brief recap of the event and mentioned that a lot of great info was shared and it was an opportunity to see old friends from the district. During the event, Kathye accepted a certificate of recognition for fulfilling all of the requirements of the Presidential Citation during Nate’s year as President. Congrats, Nate!
Lenawee Bike Tour Update – Chip thanked those who helped make the 2nd annual event and Family Fun Ride last weekend a success. We doubled the ridership from last year. We will be having a follow-up meeting to discuss what we will want to change in the future. Thanks to Chip for his leadership and all of the committee members and to Ted Keating as well!
Fluency Friends – Mary again passed around a sign-up sheet for this year’s program asking volunteers what days and times are good for them. The program will officially begin on about the second week in October. More info coming. All volunteers will need to submit a Background Check Form. Friends of yours are also welcome to participate!
World Polio Day – It was today so Kathye passed around a box in which to drop our donations for this special cause.
WLEN Coat Collection Drive – Kathy said that for the entire month of October – Seniors Cleaners – that is designed to assist seniors with house cleaning chores. People can donate house cleaning products at the Council on Aging offices and a couple of other locations. If you would like to bring them to Rotary, Kathy said she would be happy to take them with her.
Launch Lenawee – Mark mentioned to everyone – a collaborative with our club, the Lenawee Chamber, and Kiwanis. The first class is scheduled for October. Mark encouraged everyone to go to www.launchlenawee.org and consider becoming a business mentor. There is an application form on the site. Educating, mentoring, micro-loan and networking components to the classes. We need your expertise!

If you cannot attend but would like to donate a raffle item or door prize let us know...all appreciated. The donation box for polio plus will be passed around this week at the meeting. 2018-19 RI President Barry Rassin wants Rotary members to Be the Inspiration
Rassin, a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, unveiled the 2018-19 presidential theme, Be the Inspiration, to incoming district governors at Rotary’s International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA. “I want you to inspire in your clubs, your Rotarians, that desire for something greater. The drive to do more, to be more, to create something that will live beyond each of us.”
