DETAILS: New Year’s Eve Gala Event! - Mark & Mary Murray
Mark took to the podium first and provided details for not only the newest but what should also be the largest fundraising event since the Rotary Show and Travelogue Series of long ago! He reported that things are on track but that we are getting into “crunch time”! Mary, he said, had just recorded a promo on WLEN radio that will air soon. Ads about the event will soon be appearing in the Daily Telegram. Mark conveyed what Patty Clark suggested which was that we promote this event through all Social Media channels. Therefore, we encourage everyone to do this! You may even want to take a pdf (Adobe doc) of the formal announcement and simply print off and give to 5 of your friends and relatives (this is now on our website by the way). In other words, do what you can personally to get the “buzz” going and keep the energy going! There are less than 2 weeks left!
In order for this to be successful, however, we need a lot of volunteers. Mary spoke to that. Here’s the low down:
· Starting out, on Monday the 30th from 1pm-3pm we will need people to tear down, put up and move tables in the dining hall.
· Tuesday, the 31st from 1pm-3pm– Sue Lewis will need a group to help decorate (i.e. table covers, centerpieces, etc.). The actual event begins at 8pm that evening.
· After the NY’s event about 12:30am on January 1st we will need volunteers to help clean up.
At approximately 7:45pm on the 31st all greeters, hosts/hostesses will be in place to welcome guests and direct those parties to tables they may have arranged for in advance if they have requested to be seated with friends. Guest lists will be available for the hosts and hostesses.
The band will begin playing at 8pm and the bar will be open serving beer, wine, soft drinks and water. Volunteers will be asked to work 2-hour shifts possibly from 8pm-10:15pm as well as from 10:15pm-12:15am.
We will be serving finger food, Mary said, and we’ll need a couple of volunteers to make sure the food is replenished along with silverware and napkins.
Door prizes will be handed out periodically by the evening’s emcees. Then, at about 9:45pm an auction will take place. International Diamond has graciously donated a ladies diamond band to auction off retailing for $2,000!! Martin’s Home Center has given the club a $500 gift certificate and the Dennis Swartzlander family is allowing us to put up for auction a stay at their condo in Gatlinburg! Barrett’s Garden Center is offering flowers every month for a year to be auctioned off as well! Some gifts may be packaged and auctioned during the event.
Appearing on a screen during the entire event will be a PowerPoint program currently being developed showing photos of past Rotary programs, members, the event’s sponsors, etc.
There you have it! It will be held in Benincasa Hall on the campus of Siena Heights University. What an awesome job Mark and Mary along with others have been doing thus far to insure that this turns out to be an event that will not only help our club generate a sizeable revenue but will show this community the Adrian Noon Rotary Club does things and does things “big”!!
