Personal Energy Transportation (PET) - Samantha Minnette

Samantha Minnette spoke to members today about the PET program. This is a faith-based, volunteer powered, humanitarian non-profit organization designed to aid those with mobility issues. This is a faith based mission with no religious affiliation and no exclusion based on the recipient’s religion.

The majority of the gifts of mobility have been the 3-wheeled, hand-cranked wheelchairs now affectionately called “PETs”. Rod Hokenson (shown at left) proudly test drove one of the units at today's meeting. A PET hand cart race was also held pitting Adrian's two mayoral candidates, Greg DuMars and Jim Berryman, against each other. Greg won the heat by only 2 seconds!

Over 10,000 of them have been built and sent to 92 countries. They have a new location for production at 162 Platt Rd Milan. They have built 103 carts to date in the Saline project that operates out of the First United Methodist Church. Their mission statement is Matthew 40:25.

They will gladly accept cash donations that will allow them to purchase wood, paint, bolts, wheels, etc. A donation of $250 enables one PET to be built and sent to a person in need. A gift of $80 buys 4 wheels. You can also volunteer to help build them, too! Please make your checks to the church and write “PET” on the memo line and send to: UMC, 1200 N.
