Michael P. Masters – Dean of Off-Campus Operations - JCC
Here is a synopsis of his presentation: Michael is responsible for 3 satellite locations. JCC stared serving the county in 1989 from their original location on the former Trenton Hill UB Church site. Their current facility on north M52 opened in 2003. They purchased property from the LISD to build what is now a 27,000 square foot facility which currently serves 1,650 students. At JCC students can earn an Associate’s Degree in 18 months in the following areas: Arts, Applied Science, General Studies, Accounting, Business Administration, Culinary Arts/Hospitality Management, Corrections, Law Enforcement, and Nursing/Allied Health Certification. They also offer an Accelerated Business program in conjunction with Siena Heights University. Within 3 years students receive a Management Certification or Associate Degree in Applied Science or Business Administration. Students meet every Tuesday evening and alternating Saturdays at the Tech Center. The school is now seeking applications for the 2013 semester. They offer a Dual Enrollment Program where high school students can earn college credits concurrently and the secondary school may cover the cost. It requires permission from both the parents and the high school they attend. Another program they offer is the LISD Tech Center Articulation where high school students are awarded credit for work completed at the Tech Center. Students must apply for credit within 2 years of completing a LISD Tech Center program. The Student Support Services include course placement and orientation. Another program is the JCC/LISD Academy. It’s a fresh start for high school students who may be struggling in the traditional K through 12 environment. It is a 5 year program and graduate with a diploma after 4 years and would begin to earn college credits in the 5th year.
