After using his Mayoral powers to coax our Adrian High football coach out of bed and to the phone last week, Greg was able to introduce Phil Jacobs and also Siena Heights University football coach Jim Lyle. Jim said that despite a rocky 5-4 season primarily due to poor defense, Adrian was able to move through the playoffs to win the District Final. This year, the team has adopted the motto "Finish". By this, they mean finish hard in all activities. This year's team is somewhat inexperienced, so he doesn't know what to expect in the "win" category, but he does know that he has a lot of really good kids who have a lot of character. Among those is the new female backup kicker. The opener is tomorrow, and there are quite a few home games to start the season.
Being only the 2nd year of Siena football, Jim Lyle began by talking about the recruiting process. He said he looks for kids with character, and that's why his first stop is always at Adrian High... giving high praise to Phil's program. Siena's conference is very very tough. For that reason he has to stress the importance of practice to his young team so that they can understand the level of play necessary to succeed. He also said that he is very priviledged to be able to talk about religion with his team so that he can build deeper character. Please come to the games. Jim can't guarantee a "W", but he does promise you will see a hard played game to the end.
